	COMMON PARASITES
	Here are some common parasites that may infect your bird:   SKIN PARASITES: • Scaly-Face or Scaly-Leg Mite (Knemidokoptes) • Feather Mites (Red Mite) • Lice   RESPIRATORY SYSTEM PARASITES: • Gapeworms (Syngamus) • Air Sac Mites   DIGESTIVE SYSTEM PARASITES: • Roundworms (Ascarids) • Capillaria ("Threadworms") • Tapeworms (Cestodes) • Giardia • Trichomonas   WARNING: It is ill-advised to worm any bird unless there is good evidence that parasites are present. Worming medications also pose a potential health risk. Their method of administration and dosage level must be correctly selected. Also, as is evident from this disucssion, there are many types of parasites and each requires a certain type of medication.
